How can I get video from an 8mm tape (Sony Handycam) to my MAC computer?

This weekend my friend taped my best friend's wedding and I didn't know until afterwards that it wasn't a digital camera. I have a degree in video production so I want to be able to edit it myself, but I have only learned on digital cameras. How can I get the 8mm video output to go to my computer? I want it to look really good of course when it gets on the computer - plus I have a Mac/Apple computer.

Which is the best way? Can I get a USB adapter to capture video with? Do they make those? Or is there a company out there that does this sort of thing but then lets me edit it? And if so will I be able to pull off the video from their DVD that they produce? I would like to just buy a cord to transfer it over on but I don't know if it's that easy. Thanks for your help, it's greatly appreciated!

I know of 3 ways to get it on your Mac.
1. The previous answerer gave you an Apple link.
2. Use a digital camcorder that supports analog to digital passthrough to digitize your footage.
3. Beg, borrow or steal (just kidding) a Sony Digital8 camcorder that you can use to play/import the footage to iMovie.

iMovie will only recognize digital camcorders that are connected with firewire aka iLink and IEEE 1394.

You can extract footage from a DVD which is in a compressed mpeg2 format, not very good quality, and convert it to DV further degrading the quality of the video.

I recently lost my usb adapter that allows me to put photos on my computer. What cable or card reader goes with the sony cybershot 12.1 pixel camera?

You can solve all your cable and software problems with a card reader.
They're available where ever cameras are sold for little $$. Windows will see a reader as a drive so you just copy / paste to your hard drive.
No extra software, cables or hassle required.

   too cool! I clicked on this because of the still shot icon. Matt did the same thing with my camera during the same song a week ago lol … I thought this might be the video of the person at the other end of the stage from me who's camera ended up on stage too. They gave a great show.
