Questions about Pocket Knives in Michigan?

I am nineteen and looking to buy a pocket knife, but before I purchase anything , I want to make sure I'm legal.

The knife I plan to purchase is a standard folding pocket knife, with a 2.5 inch blade and some other tools (screwdriver, awl, ruler) that also fold up.

I am a college student that lives on campus, but my university allows students to have weapons as long as we store them at Public Safety and don't bring them on campus. I fully intend to follow university (and state) regulations.

I also fly a couple of times a year. Obviously I can't take a knife on a plane... but I have no need to anyway. I will leave my knife with Public Safety when I travel away from home/school.

Anyway, my question is, where else am I not allowed to carry a pocket knife?

Can I keep it in my pocket when I am just walking around town (not as a weapon) or at a friend's private residence?

Can I generally keep it on my person unless I am in a school or government building, unless posted?

There is no law limiting the length of a knife blade that you can carry concealed in Michigan as long as you're not doing it for illegal purposes. Here's a link to Michigan knife laws.
