Book Reader Home
Parents who have used Phonics books with their children. Did it help your child become a better reader?
My oldest son has a really hard time in reading. We have tried a few things at home, looking for books that are in his interest (which is very hard), reading with him in 2 15 minute sessions, and had his eyes checked. Nothing seems to be helping him become a better reader. So I thought maybe I could give Phonics books a try, but before I try those I thought I would ask parents here first to kind of give me their review on those books, or if you could give me any other tips to help my son become a better reader.
No there isn't a set called just Phonics books, but there are others outside of the Hooked on Phonics. So I just included them all. Sorry.
They usually work, although I can't say that they always will. We started using Hooked on Phonics with my son early. It defenetly helped him understand certain concepts, and it helped to start the reading process. But we also read to him, making sure we actually showed him the words that we were reading. You should try to find some type of easy-reading fiction book that your son shows some interest in. If he is excited about a book, then he is way more likely to try and read it himself. Hope this helps.

Need a portable e-book reader for PDF files?
I have an extensive library on my home PC most of the books are in PDF format and some are Microsoft Reader. I would love to have something I can carry around to read them. Ive read some reviews on the Kindle and the Sony readers but not sure which one has what I'm looking for. I have a few hundred books in PDF and I would really like to read them more comfortably instead of at the computer desk. I'm not looking for a laptop or something with a small screen like a cellphone, want something about the size of a book

Would you consider the Kindle DX? It is the best portable e-book reader right now on handling PDF files. The Kindle 2 is good as well. You can read this and it should help you decide which one to get:
