Kindle Wireless Customer Review...
By J. Bishop "Nurse"
Love Kindle Wireless 2!
I've been holding out for a long time on the digital reading because it's such a huge investment, but I'm so happy with my Kindle Wireless 2. Here are some major highlights:
- Screen: I know some people are really upset about the no backlight issue, but I'm glad because it is not as straining on my eyes as a computer screen. You can buy a booklight to clip to the cover for less than $10. I read for 2 hours in the middle of the night last night and my husband never knew, and my eyes didn't hurt.
- Large selection: there aren't many things I've wanted for the Kindle Wireless that I haven't been able to find. Plus, many classics can be purchased for $1 or less, if you can't find it for free. The ability to sample the materials before buying is also great. Keeping up with the news much more with the Kindle Wireless also.
- Highlight/edit: Sunday at church I got to add sermon notes to the text with the annotation function. I have also been able to highlight/annotate for book club. I am really enjoying this feature.
- Size/weight: fits much better in my purse than other books. I get a lot more reading done than I used to because I'm not having to decide whether or not I can lug around a huge volume.
My only complaints are that it is still so expensive and I wish there were more low-cost reads available. I don't think anything should cost more than $10. But overall, it is fantastic, I love it, and I can't imagine going back!
Still love it but disappointed in loss of USB port and SD card

I just got my Kindle Wireless 2. I like the new size and feel of the buttons. It is much harder now to accidentally hit the page buttons. I also like the way the Kindle Wireless locks into the leather case. It physically attaches through two side slots into the case so it stays inside well.
The text to speech seems useful. I tried listening to it when I drove into work and I could follow along. It is pretty choppy but it worked. I wish there was a mechanism to quickly start and stop the text to speech so you can pause in a hurry when something unexpected comes up.
They have changed the interface for downloading content. It wasn't as intuitive as the Kindle Wireless 1 interface, but once you understand it, it is pretty simple. You simply mark them "Add to Home" and they download.
I like the new in context dictionary feature but I wish they hooked it up to the text to speech. My daughter is dyslexic and it would be create for her to hear a word when she got stuck. Doesn't seem like it would be that difficult.
You can just start typing to add a note. I think that is pretty cool but I could myself leaving accidental notes (i'm pretty bad about pressing buttons accidentally)
What I am really unhappy about is the fact that they now have a proprietary USB port. It is no longer a standard usb mini port. It is also the only way to charge it so you can't use your older Kindle Wireless1 charger. So far it seems much slower to charge than my Kindle Wireless 1.
I also am unhappy about the loss of SD card. I didn't see that mentioned anywhere in the reviews and to me it is a signficant step backward. I really thought Amazon was getting it when they said they were increasing the storage space. We need more space for mp3 files and audiobooks. Taking away the SD slot is really, really silly guys.
