What is the most durable ipod and case?

I break everything electronic. My last ipod broke in my backpack because a book broke it. I need advice as to which ipod is the most durable and has the most durable case.

I've had a nano v2 for awhile now, and I lug it around in my backpack all the time, even dropped it once or twice.

Apple stores, Best Buy and Circuit City all have these clear snap cases that completely enclose the ipod. I have seen them for every version (you might have to wait a little longer for them to make new cases for the new set of video nanos). They usually run the gambit from 15 to 20 dollars but they are worth it. They take the force of the impact, and if they break, it's only 20 dollars to replace.

   I would not use spray paint unless you are really really careful as the paint can get into the cracks and then damage the thing. I am not sure.

   Comes to mind Testors paints. The one that is used to paint model cars and stuff? Should adhere well enough to metal.
