How does Kindle books compare to other electronic book publishers?

Well, on the plus side, you have access to the Amazon library. On the minus side, well where do I begin? Your Kindle is only good for Amazon content. You cannot use it as a phone, email deivce, play games, create Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Access documents. You have limited storage. The screen is monochrome, so no adjustment to colors. The thing is pretty big, so no having it with you in your pocket. Finally, if you want to download books, you need to be in range of their service (AT&T, I think) or a WiFi connection.

Basically, they have taken all of the advantages of ebooks and beaten them out of the Kindle.

I have used Palm handhelds and eReader for ebooks for years now. I currently use a Treo 755. If you are considering a Kindle, check out the Treo first, and visit www.ereader.com to see what they offer. I have unlimited storage (just use a mini SD card), I have a comfortable color screen to read on, and the unit is small enough that I always have it with me. I also have access to all of the things I mentioned above. Finally, unless I am out in the middle of the desert, I can download any of my books at any time via Sprint (or roaming) data services.
