Should I get an eReader?

My teacher introduced me to her "Kobo" because she knows I am an avid reader and I thought it was actually cool. She told me it came with 100 books and it includes Madam Boverie and Frankenstein and Beowulf which sound excellent. However, I was never a fan of the whole kindle, eReader thing because I'm afraid it'll replace my love for going to bookstores and libraries to get a beautiful, physical copy of a book. But physical copies do get worn though.

I bought my Kindle for 3 purposes:

1. So I wouldn't have 50 or so books every year that I have to figure out how to store or get rid of. The Kindle can store thousands of them. And even if I do delete them, Amazon keeps records of which books I've bought and will let me download them again for free.

2. Some books come with very small print. Even with reading glasses, if the light's not good, it becomes difficult to read. My Kindle lets me set up the fonts and spacing however I want to suit my needs.

3. Kindle books are almost always cheaper than new dead tree books. Sometimes by a little, sometimes by a lot! Thomas Malicki is mis-informed that they are more expensive.

You know what? Even with my Kindle, I still go to the bookstore every now and then, just to see what's out there, and what looks good.

Another nice feature is the Kindle let's me download a sample to every book. Usually the first chapter. It gives you a good idea if you'll like the book, before buying it.

And lastly, those free books the Kobo gives you are all out of copyright books. Amazon has over a thousand of these available for free for the Kindle.

Screen size increases too as you get about 2.5 times the screen real estate with Kindle DX in comparison to Kindle 2. This, without there being no appreciable increase in dimension or weight. So you can be sure to have an electronic reader that is compact enough for ease of carrying whenever you are on the move.

Another good thing with these electronic readers is their light weight, which is generally below 12 ounces. Just imagine what the combined weight of the thousands of books would be that each of these electronic readers is carrying. Their ability to increase font size is another big plus and will be liked the most by those who are visually impaired or by senior citizens who may have dimmed vision.

These sleek reading machines can be termed the next big thing to impact us after perhaps the iPod or the iPhone. Or maybe it’s even bigger than these. With its huge storage capacity, it can well be termed as a mobile library that you can carry along wherever you go. They have fairly long battery life as well, which can be up to about 2 weeks on a single charge.

So if you feel tempted to buy an electronic reading device, make sure you do a thorough research as regards the features that you wish to have and the price that that will let you have it all.
