Computer Hardware Installation. I need help please?
I just bought a Western Digital 1 TB Caviar Green SATA Intellipower 32 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive WD10EADS from Amazon and i just received it. I bought this hard drive so i could add more space to my computer and to keep my older one intact. I opened the box that the new Hard Drive was in and all i got was the hard drive. I am wondering if i need to buy anything else? I see that my Hard drive is connected by a black cord to the power supply unit and a white 4 pronged plug. There is also a orange wire that is connected to it. (i see its connected to the Mother board too) Do i need to buy another one of those? Or could i use like one or two white plug from the power supply unit?

From what I understand, you bought a bare hard drive. This means that it only comes with the drive and only the drive. No cables, no instructions, just the hard drive. When this happens, which is almost always, you will need a cable to connect the drive to the motherboard for them to communicate with each other and a cable from the power supply for energy. There are 2 types of connectors that are currently still used to connect your hard drives to your motherboard, SATA and PATA. Since your hard drive is a SATA drive, you will need to go to your local computer store or an internet retailer to buy a SATA cable (Google images). Now given the fact that your drive is a SATA drive, a 4 pin Molex from your power supply will not suffice. You will need a SATA power connector from your power supply. Whether your power supply comes with SATA power connectors or 4 pin Molexes, I have no idea. I can further assist you if you shoot me an email: leslieliang60634@yahoo.com. Just tell me who you are.
So basically, you need a SATA cable and a SATA power connector from your power supply unit.
