sony reader and digital books from other sites?

I recently bought a Sony Reader, because the clerk at Borders told me you can download, pics, music, and any form of digital book, from places such as Amazon or Barnes and Nobel. The thing is I don't see how when I need to download more Ebook Programs from those sites and link the Nook to the Barnes and Nobel one or link the Kindell to the Amazon Program. Any help would be great. Because a few of the books I want aren't on the Sony Reader's Store.

Don't be cheated by the sales. The Sony Reader can't read books from Barnes and Nobel or Amazon Kindle, all ebooks for are DRM protected for their own ebook reader. Consider to return the Sony Reader and get the Kindle instead...

For me, I've the Kindle 2 and I'll choose it over Sony Reader. I suggest the Kindle because it has free wireless and text-to-speech function. There are more ebooks you can find available for the Kindle too. There are some good comparison between them here:

im Tryinq To Open A Lybrary Ebook , i Downloaded Abobe Digital Editon To Read The Book And Wen i Open The File it Opens The Abobe Reader But it Dosent Open The Book . Ahh,Can Someone Please Helpp Mee.

You probably haven't restarted your system yet, and so it hasn't associated the EPUB file with ADE yet. You need to either restart or do it manually.

Assuming you have a Vista system:

1. Start, Control Panel
2. Dbl-Click on "Default Programs"
3. Click on Associate a File Type...
4. ADE reads both PDF and EPUB files. Scroll down the list until you find the .EPUB extension listed - it should be set to ADE. If not , change it by clicking on it, then on the Change Program button at the top. Browse through until you find the ADE program and select it.

If the EPUB extension isn't yet shown on the Associate Files list, then you'll need to restart your system so it picks it up. It should see it though if Acrobat opened it up. Newer readers should open it - if yours is prior to version 7 that's probably why it won't open it, or you need to open out the thumbnail view if it's a new edition.

5. Go back and do the same thing for .PDF files if you want to use ADE for both types. I'd keep PDF set for Acrobat though, as the Reader has functions that ADE doesn't.

That should fix you up. I haven't felt the need to get Star Trek ebook reader yet - most of them are close to 300 bucks. I'll stick with my notebook.
