What are the differences between the iPad and the Nook book readers?

I am looking for an ebook reader. I do not want to get the Kindle, as I find it too restrictive. However, I am currently looking at the Nook (offered at Barnes & Noble) and the iPad. What are the differences between the two. Which one would you buy and why? Thanks!

I got iPad and I have used kindle before. iPad doesn't use e ink but with IPS technology and auto brightness , reading is pleasure and it doesn't strain eyes at all.

Multiple tasking coming this fall on iPad but even without it you can do lot of work on it. It has complete iWork that means you can create spreadsheet,word doc and PowerPoint presentation right on device and I must say interface is impressive and I create word doc for my work everyday.

You can play radio at the background. App "radio" works fine at the background.typing is charm on it .Reading magazines and comics are incredible.

It has many other capabilities than an ereader doesn't have. If you need a break from reading or work , you can play a game. Gaming on iPad is better than any device on the planet except X-Box and PS 3.

You can download YouTube and other video for offline viewing. You can download PDF files right on device. Create a word doc and upload to iWork.com and then access them from anywhere in the planet.

It does everything immaculately.It's an awesome gadget for students and professionals. It's equally great for book and game lovers.

eBook Readers? Kindles, Nooks, and Bears! Oh My!?

What do you think about ebooks? Do you use them? Do you like them or not? Do you find yourself wishing you could just read a book in book form? What type do you like better?

this is a very good question! I own a Kindle and have had it for about a year. I normally read military history and battles so I am also all into maps, battle lines, etc. The stuff that puts most people to sleep. So, that said I found the Kindle did not work for the genre of book that I enjoy. However, it works perfectly for those books that take me away from the military battles. I read "normal" books about every 4th or 5th book, books that have NOTHING to do with war. When I get there at that spot I always look forward to the next order on the Kindle. I commute to work by subway and so the back pack can get sort of heavy with the regular genre of book that I read.

I prefer the pages; however, I also enjoy the screen and the ability to "work it" with the text keys in regard to notes, etc.
