My mom just bought me the Sony Clie PEG-SJ30?

I wanted an ebook reader but she couldn't afford the Kindle or others. Will this work well for an ebook reader? And will it also play MP3 files? I am a complete moron about this stuff. I just wanna know, will this work as an ebook reader, and maybe an MP3 player as well?

I doubt it.
The PEG-SJ30 is a PDA, designed for calendar and contacts primarily, with additional functional capabilities. Not sure if there is a program for reading e-books. It's been discontinued since 2003.
It was not designed as a music player, so I doubt it would easily play mp3s. You might find an accessory that can be added for mp3 use.
The screen is small...like 3 inches. It will be very hard to use this as a reader. Additionally, this syncs with your computer; that's how you download information. To your computer first, then it hotsyncs by cable to your Clie. Your computer must be running WIN XP or LOWER (no Vista or Win7 or MAC) in order to hotsync.
I had one for years, and I loved it. But I used it as a PDA and not for the uses you are wanting.

Check to see if the author is giving away free downloads. Most don't.

However Harlequin is offering some free downloads for their 60th anniversary.
