Electronic Ereaders What are your experiences with/opinions about ereaders (Kindle, Kobo...)?
I guess you don't have to give up physical books to have an ereader, and I (am probably one of the last to) admit that having hundreds of books at the tip of your finger wherever you are is a great advantage, but what will happen several years down the road, after you've bought 500-4000 ebooks, and technology moves on (like vinyl-cassette-CD-MP3) and it is no longer convenient to use your little electronic? Won't you wish you had bought those binded books?

Personally, I think that at this point, the e-book technology will be able to keep up with the e-reader technology. Even now, I can take all of my CDs and easily convert them to mp3s. The technology even exists to convert vinyl and cassettes to mp3s. I'm not sure how easy that is but it's possible. I think the same thing will happen with e-books. Also, if you already have the electronic format it's pretty easy to convert from one format to another. There are free conversion programs that will convert from pdf to the e-book format and back or even to alternative e-book formats (with the exception of Kindle because Amazon's format is proprietary but I think that might be changing). I think that any future e-readers will either be able to read past formats or the ability to convert them will be available.
I own a nook and I'm not worried about the technology becoming obsolete. Even if some new form of e-book comes out the nook can't read it can be fixed in a software update or I can buy a new nook. I've owned more than one iPod, I fully expect to own more than one nook.
Now, if only I could easily convert all my hard copy books into e-book format I'd be in business. Don't get me wrong, I love my hard copy books. I love the way they smell, the way they feel, and the imposing nature they have in my living room (I have several shelves full). I still buy hard copy books. But, I also love the portability of my nook. I love how easily I can buy books. I love how I have my library at the touch of a finger. I love that every book is the same size regardless of how many pages it is so it always fits in my bag.
