How do I convert a Word document into an eBook?

Hi, would appreciate any help, since everything I've searched on so far has proven to go off on tangents, becoe too technical, or wanted to flog me something!

I have a number of Word 2007 documents that I want to convert into eBooks to read on my Sony eReader. So far I've been turning them into PDF's, but this is not great as something doesn't work in the changeover and the spacing goes nuts - I end up with partially full pages occasionally interspersed with full ones.

Can anyone help me to figure out either how to turn my Word documents into Ebooks, or how to at least make my Word documents into more eReader-friendly PDF files?

Thank you Kelly for your answer, but it doesn't seem to work. I don't seem to ahve the option to 'Save as' and then 'eBook'. Is there an update I can get for that do you know (or anyone else?).

You can use Sony's software to convert them, or Calibre from http://calibre.kovidgoyal.net. You may need to convert (save as) to RTF first.

The Sony Reader can read RTF files, so you can open them in Word, and "save as" RTF. It works best to use a large font size, like 16 or 18 points; otherwise they'll be very tiny on the Sony Reader.

To make eReader-friendly PDFs, you need to change the page size to the right size for the reader: about 3.5x4.6 (that's not exact, but it's very close) or 90x120mm (ditto), and change the margins to something very small. (I use .1" margins all around.)

Word's "save as ebook" option will save a file as a Microsoft .LIT file, not an ebook that can be ready by the Sony Reader.

eBook question! HELP!!!!?

This fanfiction site has eBooks file or something, and I can't read them. I tried downloading eReader from eReader. com to see if that would help but I can't use eReader bacouse I'm missing some program or something about window.

If anyone can understand my confuesing question, can you help me out!
