Ereader Netbook what are the pros and cons to a netbook?
I'm trying to decide if I want to just buy an ereader (like a kindle or nook) or should I get a netbook and have a few more bonuses like surfing the net, email and word docs. Your thoughts and any recommendations would be helpful!
Don't buy a netbook. They are garbage. The biggest pro is that they are super cheap ($200-400) and obviuosly small and light. That is it. Even the highest end laptops use Intel Atom processors. Those things suck. They are so slow.
I had an HP 1000 netbook, I got it since I previously owned an HP and it last for about 5 years. It was only about $300. It had the Intel Atom, 1GB ram, and SSD. I upgraded the ram to 2GB. It was still so slow. No joke, it would take over 5 minutes to boot up and start iTunes. My Mac Pro does it in less a minute, probably close to 30 seconds. Granted that is a $1200 laptop and not a $300.
I think you are better off with a eReader or even the iPad if you can afford it. Personally if you are looking at buying something cheap go with the $300-350 cheap laptops from HP or something. Sure they are large, but they at least have Intel Celeron processors and are up to most tasks.
I only kept my netbook for about 8 months before I got fed up with and sold it on Craig's List. With electronics, you definitely get what you pay for. As far as eReaders, can't go wrong with a Kindle. The new one is only $140. My girlfriend has one and couldn't be happier. She only uses it to read. She has a laptop and an iPhone 4 for web browsing.
