my job is to make sure end users know what they're getting into should they decide to spend $500 on a shiny Apple tablet to read car magazines on the toilet (or hopefully something more noble than that).
The publishing industry had it's chance with Peanut Press for the Palm OS 10 years ago, and until the Kindle seemed unwilling to make any significant move in the ebook space.
From where I'm sitting it seems to me that the Kindle is a dud, yet I can't any reason for an Apple tablet other than to steal business from it. Ultimately, though, I believe both will fail — just as DRM failed on the MP3 and DVD.
Oh, and depending on where you look, PDFs and the like are actually doing pretty well!
