What specifically do people who work from home do to make money and earn a decent living.?

I am a professional in the IT field designing webpages and making enough money to have a comfortable life style for my age. I mean, I can see people with great skills, providing a service to their clients from home because of many reasons such as: They need to work from home to care for a family member, to save on commute expenses, or simply because they prefer to be their own boss. I have lots of extra time after my 6am to 2:30pm work day to pick up another part time job in the downtown corporate area but the thought crossed my mind to do something out of my own apartment.
