I saw this with elephants when i was in india?

elephants sollow a fruit called the wood apple which has a hard shell and sweet pulp inside. when they defecate the wood apples the shell is intact not damaged but the sweet pulp inside the fruit has been sucked by the elephants digestive system.

To me this sounded a real mystery to find the wood apple defecated by the elephant in perfect condition but with the pulp missing.

can anyone educate me as to how this can happen?

the digestive juices present inside the digestive track of elephant has been absorbed by the food eaten by him, these digestive juices break done the food molecules into smaller molecules that the lining of small intestine can absorbe (small intestin is know for nutrient absorbtion in body) and rest un digested food particles are shed out of the body
same is happning with the wood apple, the pulp of the wood apple is good source of carbohydrates, the digestive juices are absorbed by the wood apple , and is break down into easily absorbabel forms ,like glucose, maltose, (all are the forms of sugars) and some other forms of sugar, now this brekdown happens inside the wood apple, as the size of the nurient inside the wood apple decresed, it is capabel of coming out of the pores of the wood apple (the plant cells provides way to it) so while passing through the small intestine, with the absorption of water, sugars and nutrients the pulp of wood apple has been absorbed by the lining of small intestine, and while excretting out the waste, the wood apple comes out in perfect condition without the pulp
