Nook Ereader Formats

is there a textbook eReader?
I just bought a nook hoping to use it as a college textbook eReader, but apparently the textbook formats are not compatible with the nook and thus I have to return it. I would still like to get an eReader that can actually read textbooks.
Is the kindle able to do this?
Are there any other eReaders I can choose from? I live in Northern Virginia, US.
@Liz
I looked into the iPad, and not only is it out of my pricerange (which I could gladly ignore in order to avoid carrying heavy books all over campus), the LCD screen is bound to melt my eyes after less than an hour of reading.
But you did give me an idea of looking for my books elsewhere rather than at B&N, maybe that way I'll find them in PDF or ePub format which is supported by the nook. Thanks
I'm a college student as well, and I own the Kindle. I have some of the textbooks on my Kindle reader, and it does save me some heavy weights and money.
BTW, Amazon just released a new Kindle and it is much better. I've given a detailed comparison between the Nook and the new Kindle, in another answer here (I've also mentioned where to get free books in the answer). Guess you'll find interested:

And if you're getting the Kindle, my advice for you is to place the order as soon as possible so to ensure it arrives to you early. The first batch has just sold out and the second batch now deliver on or before 17th Sept. When the second batch get out of stock, it may take another month for it to be back in stock, and you'll have to wait much longer.
Hope it helps

How To Select The Right E-Reader
So you have made up your mind on procuring an ebook reader though you are a bit confused as to which ebook reader you think will be perfect for you. It is this that this article aims to remedy, as by the end of this article, you will have a fair idea of all that you wish to know of these Electronic Readers so that you can be in a better position to make your choice.
The first thing that you need to make sure is whether the ebook reader makes use of the eInk technology since it is this piece of smart engineering that can make a page on the gadget to look very much like a page of a real book. This is extremely crucial, as it will prevent your eyes from getting stressed out at the end of an extended reading session, something that often happens when reading from a PC or a laptop.
Second you got to ensure the ebook reader that you intend to buy has dimension and weight that you won’t mind living with. Compact dimension and light weight add to the portability of the device and it will be easier for you to carry it around wherever you go. Most ebook readers are about one-third the size of a magazine with a weight of just about one pound, like the cheap Kindle.
Screen size is an important factor too and you should be sure you are comfortable with the screen that the ebook reader comes with. The size recommended is the 6 inch screen or the 9 inch screen while also taking care that the screen that you choose has no reflection, which means you will have nothing to worry from the sun’s glare while reading outdoors.
The ebook reader that you choose should have good font size, and better if it features the font enlargement option. This will allow you to increase the size of the font as per your requirement and is an excellent function that will be liked more by the senior citizens or the sight impaired readers.
Make sure you pick a device like the Nook that supports different file formats. Or else, there is every possibility of the ebook that you have downloaded to be of a format that is not recognized by the reader.
The ebook reader that you buy should be energy efficient in the sense that it draws battery power only when you turn a page. This means a longer operating cycle, which can be about 14 day or 2500 page turns, whichever comes first on a single full charge.
Another important factor is that the ebook reader should support wireless technology since an eReader that isn't wireless won’t allow you to download ebooks that you would like to. With eReaders that have wireless capabilities, you can download ebooks at your will no matter where you are or whenever you wish.
Lastly, and perhaps the most important is the price that you are willing to invest in your new ebook reader. There are several of these smart gadgets available at a wide range of prices. And if money is not a problem, you can buy Kindle DX which is loaded to the brim will the latest technology and features.
