Which eReader should I buy?

I would like to get one and didn't know which one to get? The Sony reader, the nook, or the Kindle?

I own the Kindle 2 and I like it very much. I've mentioned pretty much for Kindle over the Nook here:

It is better than Sony Reader because Amazon provide good content support, and the number of books available in Kindle format is kept on increasing (right now there are 300,000 Kindle books). Sony Reader, however, many users complain that it is difficult to find suitable books.

And the main problem is that books on Sony Reader are much more expensive than that on the Kindle (tips: if you're outside the U.S. all the Kindle books you see will have a price of US$2 added. But if you choose to download to computer when you check out, the $2 will be waived. So you can get the books US$2 cheaper even if you're outside the United States, and you can copy the books to your Kindle through USB cable). And many Kindle books, magazines and newspapers are cheaper than the actual paper version. Other benefits of the Kindle over Sony Reader include the free wireless internet access (now available internationally in many countries), and the text-to-speech function.

The refurbished version is cheaper, but it only has free wireless within U.S., while the new Kindle has free international wireless. And you know, Amazon gave a price drop for the Kindle 2 just before Xmas. It is now at a really good price.

Which do you prefer, E-readers or books?

I love my books. I'll sometimes just stare at all my books on my bookshelf, I love them so much. But, I'm thinking about getting the sony ereader. The reasons are I live about half an hour from the closest bookstore and so, I sometimes go a while without a book, this way I can just get a new book whenever I want, and, also, the ebooks are cheaper. I don't know if I like the fact of not having an actual book though. So, my question is, is it worth it? Do you like your ereader or your books better?

First of all, for purposes of clarification, an ebook is a book in electronic format. Hence, an ebook IS a book. If you want to say that you prefer print books, that is fine, but the words in an electronic format version of a book also published in print are identical. Sorry, but I do love reading, which means I love books in ANY format: print or electronic.

Ebooks offer convenience. First of all, as you say, you live far away from brick and mortar bookstores. This means that getting an ebook reader would offer you accesibility. Another advantage is portability. You can literally carry with you hundreds of books in your ebook reader memory card. Now, as to pricing. Look before you buy. Not all ebooks are cheaper than the equivalent print version. The reason for this is that publishers are not exactly "forward" thinkers and some treat ebooks as if they were a product for the "privileged". This means they charge more for them than for the equivalent print version. Others offer the ebook format a month if not more after release of the actual print version.

That being said, I will never regret reading books in any way, shape or form. As a commuter, I love being able to carry with me many books without having to haul a big bag around. I also love the convenience of being able to access a bookstore from home without having to get into my car (which is how I first got introduced to ebooks 7 years ago: I was home, sick, for several weeks).

Btw, I do use a Sony ebook reader. I like it a lot. Eventually, if Barnes and Noble resolves the issues with the Nook (they have a lawsuit) I will probably get theirs. I will not buy a Kindle though.

   This is great news as Kobo is one of the most versatile of the ebook applications and their prices are usually excellent ( I just bought “The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest” for $7.99 with a $2 off promo code. eReader – which I also use – wanted $20 for the same book!). With Kobo, you can read your books on nearly any device and/or download in ePub. I had been buying Kobo books to read on both my Sony Reader and Palm Pre, I can't use the Sony Reader with eReader, Kindle, etc. An added bonus is that you can also read the kobo books online from anywhere by logging on to kobo's website and it knows the page where you left off reading on the EVO. The addition of an Android app makes it all the better as I replaced my pre with an EVO.
