whats the difference between the Kindle 3G and the Kindle Wi-Fi?

I'm considering spending and extra $50 on the Kindle 3G, but first I want to know what the 3G is. does that mean that you just have a network everywhere,instead of where you can get wifi? but you can get wifi pretty much everywhere... Would it be worth it?
