Is it possible to find out the actual mileage on an used car?

I bought a 94 Grand Am GT 2Dr. I'm trying to figure out if I can purchase an extended warranty on the car. The person I bought it from fixes cars and sells them. He said he replaced the engine so the mileage reader is incorrect. How can I figure out how many miles are on the engine? Advice from EXP. PROFESSIONALS would be greatly appreciated.

You really can't. My van has 270,000 miles on it (original engine)- if I told you the van had 70,000 miles on i, youi'd never know the difference, because it runs and drives like new.
I think it's irrelevant anyway, as I believe that the after market warranty companies go by the mileage on the car itself- as reflected by the odometer and historical records of the cars mileage where docu8mented at various points. I don't think they'd care if the engine has less mileage, even if you could prove it...if the car has too many miles to qualify for the warranty, a lower mileage engine isn't going to change anything. If you got a good deal on it, and it runs good...no smoke or funny noises...and if it performs good....be happy and save your money. Most of those warranties are rip-offs anyway- think about it- they're counting on making money off of the deal...figuring they're gonna pay out less money than they take in.
