Does my horse have an eye infection?

See the thing is im not too sure if my horse has an eye infection, because he seems to have some of the symptoms however im not too sure if it is just old age, he's nearing 32.
The thing which is foxing me is that his eyes look clear and bright with no white film covering them however the skin around his eyes looks like an old scab and it is peeling off. Which i gently remove with a baby wipe. He also occasionally has tears rolling down his face but again i don't know if its say the wind because he lives outside and only goes into the barn in very cold/wet/snowy weather.
Please help because my vet said he cant see him til jan 6th!

he might just have a clogged tear duct. it is not a big deal, so he should be ok til jan 6.
the vet will put in special eye drops to see if there is any kind of scratch on the lens.
he may clear the eye duct which is a painless process that gives much relief. paints with pink eye skin and greys with pink eye lids seem most prone to a yeasty buil up in the tear duct.
when they clear it, they will take a tube a little smaller than a cocktail straw. it is laced through the little tiny maxilary hole inside the nostril. a saline solution is gently inserted up the tube, and it will push the yeast and debris right out his tear duct in his eye. they will probably give you a tripole antibiotic ointmant that you can put in his eyes to help eliminate any kind of infection or reclogging. i had a paint a long time ago that i needed to get this done to. one time and he was just fine:)
