Kindle DX - Good Improvement, But Has Some Problems!
I started the adventure with all the ebook Sony E-Reader PRS-505. I loved the feel and look of that player, but hated the small screen and the poorly designed / stocked at Sony. I also hated having to connect the player to the computer to download books. When Amazon announced the Kindle DX forward splurged and got one.
In general, I love my Kindle and it recommends.
Positives:
- LOVE the big screen. With the smaller the Sony eReader, I was flipping through the pages like crazy and got annoying.
- Has a good battery life.
- The wireless download feature is fantastic! I like being able to buy books on computer at work and have them automatically sent to my Kindle, so they are waiting there to be read when I get home.
- The page transitions seem to be quicker than the eReader, which may just be perception, but it seems to flip through the pages faster.
Negatives:
- The layout of keys is not as convenient as the Sony eReader. Sony had buttons on the right side, the center of the "book" WHERE hands would naturally rest and a second page button sit in a corner at the bottom left, where your left thumb would be ... was so much better to be able to turn the pages with both hands, so you do not have cramps or stiffness from holding the book the same way for a long period of time. Like another reviewer, I wonder if lefties are frustrated.
- The function to mark the book is too complicated. Sony has a single button that acts as a hub for bookmarking pages ... so if you put the book down fast, you can easily bookmark the page. When you pick up is a simple step to remove it. Not with the Kindle. You must press "menu" and then use the Smart button to go down to add / remove bookmark ". It 's a bit annoying, I know ... but it is very noticeable when you are transitioning between the two.
- I like that I can buy a book at work and will be on my Kindle when I get home, but to do that, the Whispernet should be active and drains the battery much faster than you think ... not a huge deal, because I keep my Kindle connected when I'm not using, but something to keep in mind.
- We need more variety in the cases of skin ... preferably one that incorporates the lock on the side of the Kindle, rather than the straps corner.
- They released a small Kindle with the United States and international access. Seriously? I paid close to $ 500 for DX and I can not access Amazon internationally? That's something they need to address ... there is no reason to lie to buy Kindle now another model if I plan to travel abroad ...
My b serious ... seriously! Tch on the Kindle, which gave him less than 5 stars:
- There is no way to organize your books on your home screen. This was a great failure on the part of Amazon, in my book. Seriously, none of their citizens think? This is a simple software problem. The Sony allowed you to organize lists of readings and stored the books in order you put them in. .. so if you're reading one of the series, there is no need to guess which book comes after ... just put them in order and a reading list. (And seriously, not what is with all these series of books that have a numerical order lines in their title? Should I go to Wikipedia to look up the reading order in most cases before buying the book from Amazon.) I can not believe that they thought that having everything in one list clot would somehow work. This is my biggest complaint since I use this as a reading device and read a few books a month. I could not imagine trying to keep books and PDF together. Get a software patch to fix this problem and push out already! Or allow us to add information to the title, so we could at least on the number of books ...
Overall, I would recommend this device, and if the organizational fix that problem, I think it would be worth 5 stars ...
