can you use a car charger to power a car radio?
i have a pioneer deh-4200ub radio that i want to use in my home. the charger is a power force. it has several settings: 55 amp engine start, 10 amp (12v auto), and a 2 amp (12v auto). u can also charge and start the car with it. i know a pc power supply is better but i dont have one and wanted to see if i can use what i have. i seen on youtube several people were able to use their car chargers to power a car radio.
safest way would be to use a desktop power converter. That is what I use to test radios. But yes in theory that should work but if there is no fusable links in place and it gets too much power... bye bye radio. Also do not cross connections, that also equals bye bye radio.

Where can I find an adapter to plug a car charger into a home outlet in the US?
I lost my home charger for my old phone a long time ago, and now am stuck using the old phone but the lack of a charger is a bit of a problem. Either I need an adapter to charge it via my car charger in my house, or I need a charger for a Siemens CL75 (Lmtd. Ed. Poppy) that will work in the US. Anybody have any idea where to find one? (Preferable under $25)
What're asking for is a 'wall wart" type power supply with 12 volt output and a cig lighter socket. You don't need very high power, either - an amp or so will do fine. These are pretty common.
I've linked one below that's under $4. Plus shipping.
They also come in a "corded" version with a cord between the wall wart and the cig lighter socket. (second link - that's probably the one I'd buy)
Radio Shack has one, but at $33 it's absurdly overpriced. (third link) They might have something cheaper in their stores.

Why doesn't my car charger outlet/cigarette lighter work anymore and how do i fix it?
My sister borrowed my car one day and tried to use her car charger in it but it wouldn't work. We assumed the problem was with her charger because my charger always worked in my car. However when i them tried to use my charger, it didn't work either. My sister then tried to use her charger in my mom's car and it still didn't work. Now our chargers don't work in the outlets of my mom's car. What is causing my sister's charger to make our charging outlets not work? How do we fix them?

my cigarette lighter plug adapter is not working and fuse not blown. what is the problem and what can i do?
im not a smoker but i do travel and use my gps alot and i definitely need it. it just recently went out.
theres adaptors you can buy and tap into a positive wire there more conveinent because you have better control.

What is wrong with the cigarette lighter/adapter socket?
Vehicle is a 1990 Buick Century (Limited), 3.3L, V6
I was able to remove the old cigarette lighter 'socket' and replace it with a new one
(bought @ NAPA http://napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=470&LineCode=BK&PartNumber=7821610&Description=Lighter+-+Cigarette).
The one I bought is similar except that it has tab on the end which I would assume is for a ground, but the existing ground, it screws into the dash.
Thing is, it STILL won't work. No lighter, and nothing works when I plug it into the socket (I don't smoke, but I want the socket to power my XM Radio reciever). The fuse is fine, (it reads LTR, HTR, ENG). What could it be? I will greatly appreciate links, diagrams if possible.
on some of the after market lighters you have to hook up a secondary ground wire and plug it in to the spade on the back of the lighter. to test the circuit........unplug the hot wier from the lighter and test it with a test light (probe). hook the clip of the light to a good ground and put the point in the connector on the wire. turn on the ingition and see if the light comes on if it does then you know your circuit is good. if not then check your ground connection & test again. if you know you have a good ground and it still dosen't light then trace the wire back to the block and try to find the short in the wire. also test the fuse while it is turned on....... it could be there is no power to the fuse.
