setting up a wireless connection manually do I need an ethernet connection first off have the network settings?

I have my own PC which is connection to homehub now I want to set my hubbies laptop to use wirelessly?

Thanks I've tried everything and followed instructions to the tee but without success. it keeps saying that network is not in range which is ridiculous as I can see it on the screen and connection is good but when I click on the connect button nothing happens.

The internet is already setup on the laptop it's just the case of not being able to make a wireless connection!

try uninstalling the wireless card from device manager and then reinstalling it - this will correct any problems with damaged or corrupt preferences.

from device manager you just need to find the wireless card - right click on it and select uninstall - then on my computer at the top - right click and scan for new hardware - it will then reinstall it

Can I use a second wireless router to boost the signal of the first one?

I have one existing wireless router that is connected to my cable modem. I just bought another wireless router and I want to use the second one to boost the signal of the first one. I have a linksys and the new one is a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO Router.

It shouldn't be a problem. I have two wireless routers in my house called upstairs and downstairs as I live on 3 floors and I don't want to run cables all over the house.

WDS (wireless distribution system) is the method of choice for getting the two routers to talk to each other. It's a little but techy but not rocket science. To configure you need to login
to both routers' setup page ( you'll find how to in the manual) by connecting with an ethernet cable. Then you can set up WDS.

One point to bear in mind is that the second router will be running in half-duplex. To cut a long story short this means your connection speed will decrease considerably for the second 'hop'.
Another way to boost your signal is by fitting a bigger, more powerful aerial on your Linksys. Hope this helps.

Teamviewer is a great tool for using remote desktops.
I use it sometimes to fetch files at school, which I forgot home etc..

Ofc it's free for personal use.
